New Road Threatens Masaai Mara National Reserve

August 25th, 2010

The Wildlife Conservation Society and the Zoological Society of London have requested that the Tanzanian government choose an alternate route for the highway that is slated to pass through the Serengeti National Park.

Construction on the Arusha-Musoma highway is scheduled to begin in 2012, and the road would pass through the northern part of the Serengeti and interfere with wildebeest and zebra migrations.  Kenya should be concerned that it could separate the Masaai Mara National Reserve from the migration path.

While improvements like these are sorely needed to improve economic development in Africa, projects should be designed to work with nature instead of imposing potentially disastrous changes on the environment.

Kenya Landscape – On the Way to Mount Kenya

August 23rd, 2010

Today I came across this wonderful landscape picture of Kenya that was taken by Chubby Chandru and decided to share it.

He said it was taken last year on the way to Mount Kenya.  I feel like it captures so much of the beauty of the country.
